Phases of Our
Program
The Phases, activities and benchmarks are:  

Phase I (60 days)
•        Intake and assessment, development of treatment goal with staff by end of second week
•        Daily attendance at two AA/NA meetings with all residents
•        Choosing a sponsor begin step work, meet with sponsor at least one hour a week
•        Plan to resolve court ordered requirement with approval of probation and/or parole, Dept. of Children’s Services

Phase II (60-120 days)
•        Completion of first step of 12 step program with sponsor/counselor approval
•        Active participation in all program activities including working with sponsor weekly
•        Positive attitude and self directed in completing assigned tasks and assignments
•        Be involved in school, work, or volunteer work for at least 20 hours a week.
•        Meet with school counselors, Work Force Center, Vocational Rehabilitation Dept., to determine appropriate course   
  of study. Determine if remedial classes are needed.
•        Explore potential employment opportunities
•        Increased passes and allowed to go on passes and appointments without an escort.

Phase III (Maximum of two years residency in Haviland House)
•        Completion of first three steps and recommendation from sponsor to graduate
•        Graduation from SHAWL house primary program
•        Enrolled and attending school and/or employed for a minimum of 30 hours a week
•        If not employed or enrolled in educational program documentation of volunteer work at approved agency for 25    
 hours a week
•        Attendance at a minimum of six AA/NA meetings per week
•        Participation in weekly house meeting when there is not a time conflict with school/work schedule
•        Compliance with Haviland House rules and participation in house maintenance
•        Meet weekly with Case Manager and review and update goals every 60 days
•        Competence in money management including timely payment of rent and some efforts at a saving plan

All program participants are randomly screened for drug and alcohol use. Women who are eligible for up to eight hour
passes may be tested on their return. SHAWL reports all drug tests to probation and parole officers, officers of the court,
and social workers from Dept. of Children and Family Services. The Case Manager assists each resident with accessing
accompanied by a staff member who is able to give a progress report to the appropriate authority. Written reports,
including copies of all drug tests, are also provided.
